Saturday morning, neighbors. Grab a cup, today’s has a little county business and a little bluegrass in it.
What’s New
Catawba County commissioners met September 21, and two items land close to home. The county is upgrading three sewer lift stations: at Sherrills Ford Elementary, on Molly’s Backbone Road, and on Brown Chapel Road. Commissioners also approved buying a small strip of land next to the Molly’s Backbone station for $1,000 to make room for the work. Separately, 2.54 acres at 5785 E. NC 150 Highway got rezoned from residential to Highway Commercial. No word yet on what’s planned there. Here’s the full rundown.
Did You Know
With bluegrass and gospel playing at the Harvest Folk Festival at Murray’s Mill today and tomorrow (details on our Upcoming Events page), it’s a good day to remember this area once had its own stage. The Lake Norman Music Hall in Terrell hosted Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys in November 1967 and again in January 1978. There’s also an old local rumor that Dolly Parton played there. We haven’t been able to confirm that one, so if you know, we’d love to hear it. More on our History & Heritage page.
Got a Music Hall memory, an old ticket stub, or a photo sitting in a shoebox somewhere? Send it our way. That’s how local history gets written down right, one neighbor at a time.
