Morning, neighbors. Coffee’s on, here’s what’s worth knowing before you start the day.
What’s New
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a good nudge if you don’t have a Catawba County Library card yet. It’s free, works at all seven county branches including Sherrills Ford-Terrell, and gets you e-books, research tools, and more.
Did You Know
Terrell used to have a real bluegrass music hall. The Lake Norman Music Hall hosted Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass, in November 1967 and again in January 1978, and recordings from that second show are still up on YouTube. Local memory points to today’s Boat Rack marina on Highway 150 as the old site, though that’s never been confirmed on paper, and there’s a longstanding local rumor that Dolly Parton played there too, unconfirmed, but fun to wonder about. Quote for the Road: “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” — William Faulkner
If you remember the music hall, or know anything else about it, send it our way. Corrections, tips, favorite spots, whatever you’ve got, this only works with everyone’s help.
