Morning, neighbors. Coffee’s on, and today’s cup covers a fall event worth marking down, plus a practical look at what internet options actually exist out here.
What’s New
The 42nd Annual Harvest Folk Festival returns to Murray’s Mill Historic District in Catawba on September 26-27, just over a week from now. Saturday runs 10am to 4pm and Sunday 1pm to 5pm, with antique cars and farm machinery, molasses making, corn shucking, and a petting zoo, plus a full weekend of Bluegrass, Country, and Gospel music, including a set from the Cockman Family. Admission is $5 at the gate and includes a tour of the mill. It’s a short drive outside our core coverage area, but it’s the kind of county history worth boosting. Full details in our write-up.
Did You Know
Our County Services: Who to Call page breaks down internet options for the area, and it’s a mixed bag depending on where you sit. Spectrum cable is the practical default for most of the area. Brightspeed fiber exists, but it’s concentrated in lake-waterfront neighborhoods specifically, a real option if you’re on the water and less likely if you’re further inland. Windstream shows up in parts of the area with DSL and some fiber, and satellite internet like Starlink is the usual fallback for the most rural pockets. Worth double checking actual availability at your specific address, coverage maps shift.
