Morning, neighbors. Coffee’s hot, and there’s a real story out of Terrell worth your time today.
What’s New
The T.F. Connor House at 9210 Sherrills Ford Rd, built in 1886 for the man remembered as “the father of Terrell,” has changed hands again this summer, and a demolition permit has been on file since January 2025. It may be the last historic home standing at Terrell’s old cotton-gin-and-grist-mill crossroads. We’re watching closely, and we need help filling in the gaps: the real story behind the sale, any old photos, or the neighborhood’s ghost stories, if you’ve got them. Full writeup, including what we could confirm and what we couldn’t, is on the site.
Did You Know?
Ever wonder where to actually swim around here? There’s no official public swim beach on the Catawba County side of Lake Norman right now, that’s just the honest answer. The lake’s one official beach sits across the water at Lake Norman State Park in Troutman, Iredell County. Good news down the road: Duke Energy has set aside 130 acres in Catawba County for a future access site called Island Point, swim beach included, tied to a 2015 relicensing commitment. Still years out, but it’s coming. More on our Local Spots page.
Quote for the Road
Still waters run deep, as the old saying goes. Feels about right for a lake that’s still waiting on that official beach.
That’s the coffee talk for today. Know the real story on the Connor House, or see something else we should cover? Send us a tip, this only works with everyone’s help.
