Morning, neighbors. Coffee’s on, and today we’re headed back to a time before the lake was even here.
Did You Know
Lake Norman didn’t always exist. Duke Power dammed the Catawba River in the 1960s, creating what’s still the largest man-made lake in North Carolina. That single project reshaped everything here, turning old farmland and river crossings, including the very ford that gave Sherrills Ford its name, into the shoreline neighbors know today.
There’s more of that story, the Sherrill family, how Terrell got its name, the old Lake Norman Music Hall, and a camp meeting tradition older than the lake itself, on our History & Heritage page.
Quote for the Road
“Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.”
A.A. Milne
Feels about right for a place that spent two centuries as a river before it ever became a lake.
That’s this morning’s pour. Got a memory, a tip, or a correction? Send it our way, this only comes together with everyone’s help.
