Early voting starts this Thursday, October 15, at the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Library.

Monday morning, neighbors. Grab a cup, here’s the short version.

What’s New

Dates and ID basics for early voting are in our voting guide.

Also new: a look at the Bunker Hill Covered Bridge near Claremont. It was built in 1895, and according to the American Society of Civil Engineers it’s the only surviving wooden example of its truss design. It’s free to visit, dawn to dusk. A little outside our usual stretch, but worth the drive.

On our Upcoming Events page this week: the Mystery Mavens Book Club meets tomorrow, Tuesday, at 6:30 pm at the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch Library (open to the public, even if you haven’t read the book). Storytimes run Wednesday through Friday, and there’s all-levels yoga at Mountain Creek Park on Friday at 11 am.

Did You Know

Sherrills Ford, Terrell, Monbo, and Long Island are all unincorporated, which means there’s no town hall and no town police department. Our County Services: Who to Call page starts with that fact because a lot of people out here don’t realize which county services already apply to them. The Sheriff’s Office covers this area, with a local substation at 8456 Sherrills Ford Rd, and the page lists the non-emergency numbers to keep handy. For a real emergency, call 911.

Spot a number that’s changed or a service we missed? Tell us. Pages like this stay right because the people who live here keep us honest.
