If you haul your own trash and recycling, your trip just got a little easier. Catawba County has finished its improvements to the Sherrills Ford Convenience Center. Commissioners Barbara Beatty and Cole Setzer joined county staff and neighbors for a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, September 22.
What changed
- A larger layout, built to handle about 100 users a day
- An improved entrance and exit
- Upgraded lighting
- New recycling drop-off for used motor oil and oil filters, antifreeze, and cooking oil
That last one is worth knowing. If you’ve been holding onto a jug of old motor oil or a pan of fryer grease because you weren’t sure where it could go, it now has a home close by.
The basics
- Address: 8876 Sherrills Ford Road, Sherrills Ford
- Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Sunday
- Phone: 828-478-2248
A bit of history: the county has run a convenience center at this spot since 1976, and bought the property from Duke Energy Carolinas in December 2022.
