Morning, neighbors. Coffee’s on, and today’s cup is a history one, no news to chase down.

Did You Know

Ever wonder how Terrell got its name? It wasn’t a founder or a surveyor, it was a circuit-riding Methodist preacher named Pinckney Lawson Terrell. A post office was set up in 1893 at the T.F. Connor store, and the story goes that the community named it after him because he’d paid off all his debts. Simple as that.

That old store building is part of what’s now the Terrell Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it once anchored a real working crossroads of trade for this area. You can read the fuller version, plus the Sherrill family’s 1747 story and the Lake Norman Music Hall, on our History & Heritage page.

Quote for the Road

“A good name is more desirable than great riches.”

Feels about right for a town named after a man who paid what he owed.

That’s the cup for today. Got a correction, an old photo, or a story about the area we should hear? Drop us a line, this only works when neighbors pitch in.
