What’s New

Two updates worth your attention this morning. The NC State Board of Education has set a review timeline for the proposed merger of Catawba County Schools, Hickory City Schools, and Newton-Conover City Schools, worth watching if your kids go to Sherrills Ford Elementary, Mill Creek Middle, or Bandys High. And that fall festival we teased yesterday is now official: Sherrills Ford Elementary PTO has set October 24 for its Fall Festival, with vendor and volunteer sign-ups already open.

Did You Know

Our Support Local: Farms & Makers page has grown to cover close to three dozen farms and makers scattered across the wider area, and one of the more surprising entries is right in Sherrills Ford: Birdbrain Ostrich Ranch, which sells ostrich meat and eggs and offers farm tours. It’s a working directory, not a review or ranking, built from public research and still waiting on locals to confirm the details. Worth a look if you haven’t clicked over yet.

Quote for the Road

“Eating is an agricultural act,” wrote farmer and writer Wendell Berry. Every trip to a local farm stand is a small vote for the land around us.

Know a farm or maker who belongs on that list, or spot something else worth sharing? Send us a tip, this whole thing only works with everyone’s help.
