Morning, neighbors. Coffee’s hot, and today’s did-you-know might save you a phone call down the road.

Did You Know

Sherrills Ford, Terrell, Monbo, and Long Island are unincorporated, so there’s no town hall tying it all together, and that trips a lot of people up on who to actually call. Our County Services: Who to Call page breaks it down, and one detail surprises people every time: if you’ve got a nuisance deer, a snake in the yard, or another wildlife problem, that’s not a county animal control job. It goes through the state. The NC Wildlife Resources Commission runs a helpline staffed by biologists just for that, at 1-866-318-2401, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. The page also covers the sheriff’s substation on Sherrills Ford Road, fire and rescue, EMS, and your two realistic hospital options depending on which side of the bridge you’re starting from. Worth a bookmark.

Quote for the Road

That fire and rescue number belongs to an all-volunteer department, neighbors showing up for neighbors. Mister Rogers said it best: “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” Around here, you don’t have to look far.
