Morning, neighbors. Grab your coffee, or two, we’re a day behind here’s what’s worth knowing today.
Did You Know
Labor Day is a couple weeks out, get ready for the last rush of outsiders. Worth knowing: there’s no official public swim beach on the Catawba County side of the lake right now. Maybe someone should fix that? Lake Norman State Park has the lake’s one real beach and bathhouse, but that’s across the lake in Troutman, Iredell County.
The good news: Duke Energy has 130 acres set aside in Catawba County for a future public access site called Island Point, planned to include a swim beach, boat ramp, fishing piers, and trails, tied to a 2015 federal relicensing commitment. It’s still years out, but it’s coming. Or is it? Does anyone know if this is a real thing?
Full rundown of local spots, boat ramps, and parks is on our Local Spots page.
Quote for the Road
“The lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth’s eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.” Henry David Thoreau wrote that about Walden Pond, but it fits a lake morning here just as well.
